Enhancing Your Level of Expectations for an R/C Event

The WCA is an organization of like-minded individuals with a focus on giant scale warbirds and classics events. These events are based on a proven formula that not only enhances the pilot’s experience at these events but creates a confidence level of expectation when attending other WCA events. Based on the legacy of the IMAA standards of a minimum 80” wing span for monoplanes and 60” wing span for bi-planes this ensures the expectations of the event and the safety of everyone involved. Scale turbine aircraft are welcomed too, but sport jets such as the Kingcat, Kangaroo, and Electras will not be permitted. Military aircraft can be a reasonable and authentic representation of the full scale plane from any military branch during any era where the aircraft has been placed into service. Examples include: P51, Fokker DR1, C-47,

BF-109, F4F Wildcats, F-100, and A1 Skyraider, etc.

The civilian equivalent of these military aircraft will also be permitted. For instance, the DC-3, Super Constellation, and WWII aircraft with Reno type paint schemes such as Dago Red and Rare Bare. Model aircraft such as the Sig LT40 or the Ugly Stick with military markings will not be permitted.

Civilian aircraft to be included are the reasonable and authentic representation of the full scale planes manufactured and in service prior to 1975 but is flexible to the Air Boss as time advances. Examples are: Piper Cub, Tri-Pacer, Cessna 180, Cessna Skyhawk, etc.

Warbird gaggles, dawn patrols, multi-engines, and common aircraft flights are encouraged at all the events for a laid back and enjoyable experience.

That being said, after hour or post event fun is open to all size and type of remote control aircraft. However, safety doesn't stop after the event. We encourage all events to utilize all typical safety advantages such as; Spotters, Paddle system and pilot communication in the evening hours.

One of the advantages of the WCA is the support group of the leadership team. Our main goal is for you to have a successful experience based on this proven formula and the level expectations our pilots are accustomed to.

Below are some of but not limited to, the guidelines of the WCA events:

  • Sanctioned by the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics)
  • Safety Declaration is posted. (See below for the declaration)
  • Flight Line control typical of these events, i.e. Paddles, Air Boss and or traffic control
  • Military aircraft from any era - See above for description
  • Minimum wing span 80” Mono, 60” Bi-plane
  • Scale Jets meeting the minimum requirement of 144” total measurements. Example,
    72” Wing Span + 72” Fuselage Length = 144”
  • Classic era aircraft built before but not limited to 1975
  • The club or promoter has held 3 or more warbird type of events in the past
  • Each aircraft must have a minimum of 5 successful flights before the event
  • Event date to be held at same time each year
  • Events are typically held Thursday thru Saturday
  • Have fun and promote this segment of the hobby
